Getting Started

This tutorial explores 3D features that are only available in Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. Be sure that you have Photoshop CS4 Extended before you begin.

In this tutorial, you'll perform the first few steps in creating the CD cover art for a fictitious band named "Brick Hat." For instructions to complete the entire image (shown in Figure 1), see Chapter 12 in Adobe Photoshop CS4 Classroom in a Book.

Working with 3D artwork can be processor-intensive. For better performance, enable OpenGL in the Photoshop Preferences dialog box, if your video card supports OpenGL. Additionally, some tools designed to assist you in working with 3D images aren't available if your video card doesn't support OpenGL or if it isn't enabled. However, you should be able to complete the tutorial.

If you haven't done so yet, download the files to begin this tutorial.
