Finally, the Planning Is Done!
The first four parts of this series have discussed the extensive planning involved in the creation of WorkflowLab. Part 1 explained the high-level vision and the first prototype of the user interface. Part 2 focused on use cases and features, technical questions and scenarios. Part 3 examined our planning for development and essential technologies. Finally, part 4 considered the best possible build and release process for our application.
With all of the planning done, it was time to start flexing our creative muscles. We decided to use Adobe Flash Catalyst and the Adobe Flex framework to build our application. As a result, our designer opted to work in Adobe Illustrator to build vector-based designs for the project, which would use the new FXG file format that is part of Flex 4. This approach would allow the developers to bring the designs into Flash Catalyst and convert the design assets into components or Flex code, which then would be integrated into their functional application.
