Ok, full disclosure; I am a seasoned vet with Premiere and was reviewing this book for a User Group that I run in Kansas City. After going cover to cover I can confidently say this book is HIGHLY recommended. The Classroom in Book series is fantastic for taking people with no knowledge of the subject matter and getting them up and running in one quick read. I love the format of the Classroom in a Book series as they start each chapter with what you can expect to learn and approximately how long it will take. The steps are napoleon corporal clear and at the end there is a short non-intimidating quiz to review. Classroom... in a book. As a seasoned vet that uses Premiere on a daily bases if I can pick up one or two shortcuts from a book/class/tutorial it is normally worth it as I'll reuse that a thousand times over in a year's time. I must have picked up a dozen things that had me shaking my head "I cannot believe I didn't know this was in there." Some of it was... Read more

I've recently received the Kindle edition of the book, so I've not had time to fully read the book. Therefore, this review is based solely on my thoughts about the Kindle presentation of the material, and not the material itself. My goal is to help people decide whether to purchase the Kindle or the paperback book, not whether the book itself rates 4 stars.First, the lack of a physical DVD that accompanies the paperback is not a problem. Inside the Kindle version is a link to a website to download about 5 gigs worth of media/project files. If you've got a broadband connection and an hour or two to wait, you're covered. Regarding the layout of the content, it works pretty well using a larger second monitor to display the pages while you perform the included lessons. (I use a 24-inch LCD at work.) Most of the screen captures are large enough to read easily. However, there a few figures in the book that are too small to read on a standard kindle. I wish the... Read more

For Premiere Pro (Pr) CS6, Adobe introduced a new user interface (UI) and a variety of new keyboard shortcuts. In essence, it feel like a very new product. Earlier this year we had to go back to a Pr CS5.5 project and had forgotten how much Pr CS6 changed everything in a most wonderful way.Adobe Press made a big change to "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a Book" (CIB) from their CS5 edition. The new writing team of Richard Harrington and Maxim Jago came on board. Richard is a prolific writer. We have quite a few of his books and they never disappoint. In all candor, we come across Richard on various internet forums and Facebook assisting others with image-making projects, but we don't know one and other all that well and not enough to alter our opinion of his writing. To set the stage, we go back to Premier 1.0 as well as having had a traditional video editing suite, in the days of tape. Admittedly, we had not kept up with all the Premier revisions until... ERRATA
The file, jacket.mov, included with the assets for the Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a book, used a video codec many users many not have installed. When attempting to relink the media files, many users will receive a warning message explaining that a necessary codec is missing. A replacement jacket.mov file has been created (available via the link below), using a common codec. To use the new file, browse to the Classroom in a book assets folder you copied to your hard drive, and then to the Greenscreen folder, where you will find the original jacket.mov file. Copy the new file into that folder, and choose to replace the original file with the newer one in the dialog box that will appear.
