10 Minutes with Flash: Bitmap Video Effects

Article Description

In the first of a bi-weekly series of articles called "10 Minutes with Flash," Robert Hoekman, Jr. demonstrates how to make reality pretty again with faux video effects using simple bitmaps.

Summary

Faux video effects in Flash are super-easy to do and can be a lot of fun. Don't stop now—go do some experimenting and see what you can come up with on your own. If you want to try using this animation inside of another movie, you'll want to add a Mask layer that covers the Stage area for the faux video. My 10 minutes are up, so you'll just have to check back in to see if I explain how to create masks in a future "10 Minutes with Flash" article.

By the way, the files used in this project are downloadable here (so, essentially, you just did all that work for nothing).

Until next time, happy Flashing!
