To choose settings for the Paintbrush:

Paintbrush settingsFig. 4 Choose settings for the Paintbrush in its Preferences dialog box.

  1. Double-click the Paintbrush tool (or choose the tool and press Return/Enter).

  2. Choose a Fidelity value (0.5-20) (Figure 4). A Fidelity value below 5 will produce a path very close to the way you drag the tool. A high setting will produce a smoother path with fewer anchor points that only approximates the path you drag.

  3. Choose a Smoothness value (0-100) for the amount of curvature the tool creates in the path. The higher the Smoothness, the fewer the irregularities in the path.

  4. Optional: Check the "Fill new brush strokes" box if you want new paths to be filled with the current fill color.

  5. Optional: Check the Keep Selected box to keep the newly drawn path selected.

  6. Click OK (Return/Enter).
