In this sample chapter from Engineering Design and Graphics with SolidWorks 2019, author James Bethune gets you started on SolidWorks. This chapter will show you how to start a New drawing and introduce the Line, Circle, and Edit tools. The Smart Dimension tool will be used to define and edit lines and circles. Line colors and relationships will also be introduced.

1-10 Creating 3D Models

The fully defined shape shown in Figure 1-29 can now be used to create a 3D model.

To Create a 3D Model

  1. 1.jpg Click the Features tab.

  2. 2.jpg Click the Extrude Boss/Base tool.

See Figure 1-30. The shape will change orientation to the Trimetric format. The sketch was created on the Front Plane.

  1. 3.jpg Define the depth as 20 mm.

  2. 4.jpg Click the green OK check mark.

  3. 5.jpg Click the drawing screen.
